Karen Kutscher Waters was crowned as Los Fresnos Rodeo Queen during a media night at the newest building of Los Fresnos rodeo grounds.
The junior student at Los Fresnos High School who enjoys water polo, received the crown and other gifts on Thursday, Feb. 14, in front of hundreds of people who were enjoying a BBQ meal.
“Thanks for this honor,” she said. “I hope to represent Los Fresnos and the rodeo as best as I can.”
Waters’ father Bruce and grandmother Janice were glad to see her taking the center stage.
“I am very proud of her,” Janice Waters said.
“She is my angel,” Bruce Waters said. “She was the Cameron County Livestock Show Queen last year.”
Being a queen twice is a tradition here.
That’s because to be rodeo queen, one has to be a livestock show queen first.
Waters will wear the crown until the next rodeo in 2020.
