Slowly but surely people started showing up on the early morning of a February day at the Church of Christ in Los Fresnos even though services were scheduled for the next day.
The local residents were there because a chapter of the Boy and Girl Scouts Troop 61 were having a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon this past Feb. 22.
The meal included the round and fluffy cakes and sausage as much as one could possibly eat. Coffee and orange juice were also available.
Terence Schraut, the scout master, said the fundraiser was to collect money for the troop’s upcoming trips to Camp Perry and to Oklahoma State.
“The Oklahoma trip will take nine days altogether,” he said. “Two of those days will be for traveling.”
Schraut said new this year is the formation of the first Girl Scouts troop here in Los Fresnos.
Dallas Petta, now with Troop 61, said she has known some of the boys for a while.
“I am now one of the new members,” she said. “I would like to do some of the things the group does.”
Ada Trevino, an adult leader with Troop 61, said the group will visit an Indian reservation to learn about the Native American culture.
Schraut said their organization is always looking for new members.
