The Los Fresnos boys basketball team’s historic season came to a sudden end at the Region IV-6A tournament semifinals as the Falcons fell to the San Antonio Brandeis Broncos 64-52 on March 6 at North East ISD Littleton Gymnasium in San Antonio.
This season marked the first time a Falcons hoops team had ever qualified for a regional tournament as they marched through the entire 2019-20 season and the first three rounds of the postseason nearly unchallenged.
Even against Brandies, the Falcons played solid ball through three periods and tralied the Broncos by just two points at 44-42.
It was the final quarter, however, where the momentum completely shifted as the Broncos outscored the Falcons 20-10 to seal the victory. The Broncos went on to defeat Converse Judson in the regional finals, 75-68, and took on defending Class 6A champion Duncanville in the state semifinals on March 13 at the Alamodome.
Meanwhile, the Falcons ended the season with a 33-4 record.
Senior Elian Gonzalez led the way for Los Fresnos with 14 points, followed by Gerry Martinez, who added 13, and senior Ricky Altamirano, who netted 12.
