As the number of positive coronavirus cases continues to rise in the Rio Grande Valley, including here in Los Fresnos, a mobile test collection will be held next week in town.
The testing will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, and Wednesday, May 27 in front of the Los Fresnos Fire Department building at 100 Rodeo Dr.
Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. made the announcement as part of a countywide initiative that began on Thursday, May 11 in La Feria and will end May 31 in La Feria at the commissioner Precinct 4 Warehouse at 26623 White Ranch Rd.
Health workers will screen people who have some of the symptoms of the virus such as fever and/or coughs, fatigue, body aches, shortness of breath, sore throat, headaches, nausea, nasal congestion and loss of taste and/or smell.
The testing is free but anyone interested in getting checked must register online by going to txdcovidtest.org or by calling 512-883-2400.
The countywide test collections are being done at a time when cities all over the country, including the Rio Grande Valley, started opening some sectors of the economy while the number of positive cases continues to rise.
Here in Los Fresnos, 14 positive cases were recorded as of early last week. Countywide, a total of 527 cases and 23 deaths were on record during the same period. Port Isabel had three cases while Brownsville had 186 cases.
The figures were provided on Tuesday, May 12, by the Cameron County Health Department.
