Los Fresnos–The Los Fresnos Falcons picked up where they left off in 2019.
With their wish bone offense, Miles Mcwhorter gashed Brownsville Rivera for 133 yards on 14 carries while Chris Resendiz galluped for 116 yards on 21 carries and three scores.
The rushing attacked was a key cog in their 38-16 district 32-6A opener Friday night. Los Fresnos will now shift their focus to Brownsville Hanna at home, while Rivera travels to San Benito.
“We had written in our game plan for Miles and Matt Padilla to run the ball but on Matt’s first carry he got hurt,” said head coach Patrick Brown. “Miles toughed it out and if you watched the game he missed about half the game so we used our fourth and fifth A-backs and they stepped in and did a great job.”
Despite the limited offseason and one intersquad, Los Fresnos offense looked sharp with signal caller Adrian Longoria.
“Adrian did a great job for us on Friday,” Brown said. “He made some great decisions with the ball on pitches and that is tough to do in this offense.”
“We were pleased with our performance and with the kids’ effort.” Brown said.
Along with the rushing attack, the Falcons held Rivera to 16 points and Emiliano Moreno and Francisco Melendez each intercepted a pass along with Gregory Jones who collected a sack.
