Los Fresnos CISD Student Art and Music Expo Set for April at BMFA
- Updated: April 14, 2023
Los Fresnos CISD
The Los Fresnos CISD Art Department is putting student creativity on display this April at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Arts. Their second annual Student Art Expo will feature over 400 pieces of stunning and colorful mixed media pieces from secondary campus students that will hang in the BMFA entrance exhibit hall.
The unique opportunity is the result of a new partnership between the Museum of Fine Arts and the District. Students worked to months to create the amazing artwork which reflects this year’s theme, “Making an Impact Through Creativity”.
“All 30 students in my class were given 10 weeks to work on a project that reflects pop culture. They were tasked with taking an everyday object and translating that into an art piece to understand how the use of color and shape influence emotion and feeling,” said Luis Saldana, an Art History educator at Resaca Middle School.
Saldana’s is one of seven classes that contributed to the exhibit, which will be open to the general public at the museum from April 1 through April 22, during Youth Art Month.
“We pride ourselves in teaching kids to understand the world around them, but we also take pride in nurturing their passion for the arts and teaching them appreciation of the arts. Our mission is to deliver a quality educational experience. This partnership with the Brownsville Museum of Fine Arts allows us to do that,” said Dr. Gonzalo Salazar, Los Fresnos CISD Superintendent.
The District will host three events featuring student music and dance performances will highlight exceptional Los Fresnos CISD talent. The elementary and secondary folklorico and choir groups will each have receptions featuring short performances. A larger “Student Art and Music Expo” will take place in mid-April with exhibiting artists in attendance, accompanied by the award-winning Los Fresnos High School Jazz Band.
“The diverse artistic skills of our students will be celebrated at these events. We are so proud of the time and dedication the students and teachers put into these pieces and encourage the public to check them out,” Sara Tudon, Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Los Fresnos CISD.
All Los Fresnos CISD students and staff will be able to visit the BMFA at no cost for the remainder of the school year by showing their school ID. All parents and the community are encouraged to also
