Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Gonzalo Salazar held a meeting on April 17, 2023, to recognize outstanding students and employees in the district. The meeting drew a packed audience as dozens of individuals were celebrated for their hard work and dedication to their respective fields.

In Athletics, the Tennis, Soccer, and Powerlifting Teams, both boys and girls alike, were
all recognized for their outstanding work. The Powerlifting teams, in particular, stood out as both the boy’s and girls’ teams had won the State Championship for the eighth time in a row. See our story titled, “Lady Falcons Conquer State Once Again”.

The district also took the time to acknowledge the efforts of students pursuing career and technical education, including those participating in SkillsUSA, HOSA, TAFE, FFA, and Welding. These programs allow students to gain real-world skills and experiences in a variety of industries, preparing them for success beyond high school.

On the student’s end, last but certainly not least was the amazing Los Fresnos Jazz
Band! The Jazz band recently performed at the Student Art & Music expo and last month competed at the Texas A&M Kingsville Jazz Fest. To say the band has had a busy month would be an understatement.

The LFHS Jazz Band won the Grand Champion title at the Texas A&M Kingsville Jazz Festival, competing against 43 other bands. The Varsity group earned the top spot, while the Non-Varsity and sub-Non-Varsity groups placed second and third respectively. Four band members were also named to the All-Star Jazz Band. The band’s success was attributed to their hard work and guidance from David LaClair and Jorge Rangel. Los Fresnos CISD board recognized the Jazz team for their outstanding talent.

In addition to students’ athletic and technical achievements, the district recognized employees who went Above and Beyond the Call of Duty (ABCD Award). These individuals were praised for their exceptional service and dedication to their roles in the district.

Overall, the meeting served as a demonstration of the incredible talent and hard work present at Los Fresnos CISD. The district looks forward to continuing to support and recognize these individuals in the future, as they strive for excellence both inside and outside of the classroom.
