Coming off the All Star Break, Teams are now ready to begin the second half of the 2023 MLB Season. A common trend that has been seen in recent years is that teams will often lose momentum or gain momentum at the midway point.
One team that looked to continue momentum is the Texas Rangers. After finishing the first half in first place of the AL West, Bruce Bochy’s Ball club quickly needed to go to work to stay on pace for a AL West Pennant.
To begin the second half of the season, Texas faced off against the Cleveland Guardians, a team who has been battling it out in the AL Central Standings.
In game one, Texas quickly went to work and set the tone on offense early on to defeat Cleveland in grand style 12-4. Game two saw the Rangers and Guardians in a defensive showdown as both clubs played solid ball throughout the afternoon. Despite a defensive game, Texas was able to grab two runs and held on to win 2-0.
Now with the series already won by Texas, game three was now set to go. Cleveland jumped ahead to a 3-1 lead over the Rangers in the first two innings. After tacking a run in the third, the Rangers went scoreless throughout the game. Cleveland would then add two more runs to make it 5-2 However, the Rangers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eight. Texas would hold control and win the game 6-5 in comeback fashion.
The Rangers will continue the homestand as they host two first place teams. The Tampa Bay Rays who are in first of the AL East, then the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are in first of the NL West.
