Cowboys, Texans with different outcomes in Preseason Openers
By Ruben Rodriguez
With the 2023 NFL Preseason underway, teams have officially begun the road to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl. For the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, both teams had different starts to 2023.
Dallas played host to the Jacksonville Jaguars while the Texans traveled to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots. The Cowboys, who fell short in the NFC Divisional Round to San Francisco, aimed to kick off their season with a bang. Jacksonville however, had a different idea in mind. The Jags shut down the Cowboys in the first quarter and were only limited to a touchdown with a two point conversion. Dallas would respond in the second quarter with a touchdown of their own before Jax put up six more to make it 14-7 at the half.
The Cowboys put up 16 points in the second half. Despite a strong second half on offense, the Jags put up 14 more points and picked up the win over the Cowboys 28-23.
Houston, had bit of a different night. The Texans, who have struggled in the past few years were ready to turn over a new leaf. New England struck first with a field goal, but were limited to only those three points as the Texan defense stood tall. Houston’s offense tacked on a TD to lead 7-3 at the half.
In the second half, The Texans then scored 13 more points and continued their offensive run. Defense also stole the show for the Texans as the Patriots were not able to find the end-zone and were limited to only Field Goals. Houston would win 20-9.
Both teams now will turn their attention to week two of the 2023 NFL Preseason.
