As of 2013, eleven Valley CISDs participate in the program. Thirty percent of the advertising funds are returned to the participating school district. Sponsorship forms were made available to chamber members.
Chamber Director Debra Badeaux welcomed guests and new members to the group after the invocation was led by Rev. Filberto Pereira. New members joining the chamber the week were: Real Estate Outfitters, Los Fresnos Fitness, Little Caesar’s Pizza, Los Fresnos Pharmacy, AB Tax Services and Welcome Home Rio Grande Valley.
Badeaux reminded everyone that the deadline for promotional items for the teacher bags would be August 16. The planned number of bags is 650. She also suggested that if members were ordering items that they may want to go ahead and order items for the bags given at the rodeo in January, 2014.
Badeaux gave August 16, 2013 from 1 to 4 p.m. as the day that free school supplies would be given out by the Wipple Library and the United Way at the city park.
Simon Vaga announced to the group that the August Elvis Fest would be cancelled and that there would be a two day celebration on January 11 and 12, 2014.
The Drawing was held for the disaster fund prizes.
Mrs. Badeaux thanked all members present for coming and also thanked Jeannette Pitts and Sarah Stinson with Channel 4 for coming and speaking.
