Valley Native is Heading to the Olympics

Congratulations to Shaine Casas, a Rio Grande Valley native who has earned a spot on Team USA’s roster for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. Casas displayed his exceptional talent by clinching second place in the Men’s 200M Individual Medley on Friday, June 21, clocking in at an impressive time of 1:55.83. His unwavering dedication and outstanding talent have made him a role model for aspiring athletes. Securing a spot in the finals of the 200-individual medley at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials, which were held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, is a remarkable milestone for the McAllen native.
His debut in the Olympics in Paris in the 200 Individual Medley marks a historic moment for Casas, a graduate of McAllen High School who has amassed an impressive 11-time world championship medalist and a three-time NCAA DI champion. The eagerly anticipated games are scheduled to commence on Friday, July 26.
The 2024 Summer Olympics, also known as Paris 2024, are not just another international multi-sport event. They are a groundbreaking celebration of sports and innovation. From July 26 to August 11, 2024, France will host an Olympics like no other. One of the most exciting additions to this year’s lineup is the inclusion of break dancing as a new Olympic event, a move that is sure to captivate audiences worldwide.
But the innovation doesn’t stop there. For the first time in the history of the Olympic Summer Games, the Opening Ceremony will not be hosted in a traditional stadium. Paris 2024 is taking a bold step by bringing the festivities into the heart of the city along the Seine, its iconic river, showcasing an innovative approach by integrating sports with urban landscapes.
