Farmers Market First Annual Olympics to Take Place August 10th

Get ready for an unforgettable experience at the Brownsville Farmers Market’s First Annual Farmer Olympics, part of the National Farmers Market Week celebration organized by the Brownsville Wellness Coalition. This exciting event is a tribute to South Texas agriculture. It will feature various competitive and non-competitive games inspired by the daily tasks of farmers, gardeners, shrimpers, and ranchers.
The event will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Linear Park in Brownsville during National Farmers Market Week. It promises to showcase the vibrancy and allure of farm life through a series of engaging and family-friendly games. By participating, you’ll have a great time and play a vital role in making this event a success. Moreover, you’ll have the chance to connect with a diverse and lively audience.


This family-friendly event is open to all ages and aims to support local businesses, provide entertainment for the community, and strengthen bonds among residents. The event coordinators express their deep appreciation for the unwavering support of farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and shrimpers and their non-agricultural sponsors, whose contributions have made this event possible.


Get ready for a day filled with fun and excitement! The games at the Brownsville Farmers Market’s First Annual Farmer Olympics are designed to bring out the competitive spirit in everyone. The games will be divided into different age groups, each offering a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize. The first age group, ‘Little Sprouts,’ includes children aged 3-5. With the help of a parent, these little ones will compete in Pin the Tail on the Piggy, Little Piggy Race, Wheelbarrow Race, and Pigs in the Blanket Race. The ‘Seed Sowers’ age group, comprising children aged 6-12, will compete in Moo Ring Toss, Horse Race, Chicken Egg Sorting, Sack Race, and Water Bucket Race. The ‘Farm Raisers,’ comprised of participants aged 13-17, will participate in the Big Pen Race, Hula Hoop Race, Lasso a Cow, Bobbing for Apples, and Veggie Rush. The ‘Rangers,’ aged 18 and above, will compete in the Hay Bale Toss, Sled Push & Pull, Hang Time, Veggie Run, and Shrimp Peeling.


For those aged 18 and above, we have the ‘Wranglers’ team competition. Teams of 5 will battle it out in the Shovel and Barrel Race, Water Bucket Race, and Tug of War. This adds an extra layer of excitement and camaraderie to the event, making it a perfect day out for families and friends!
