- Updated: September 7, 2024

By Mike Villarreal
As summer came to an end, Beach Waterpark on South Padre Island hosted its 1st Annual Fajita Taco Beach Cook-Off Event on Sunday, August 25th. For just $5, water park guests could sample and vote for their favorite tacos from various competitors. Whether you own a taco truck or a restaurant or have a passion for cooking, everyone was invited to compete, though spots were limited. The grand prize was $500. Juniors Supermarket supplied the meat for the competitors, who showcased their skills in the park’s BBQ Cabanas. Live music entertained everyone throughout the day. Vargas BBQ from Edinburg emerged as the winner. The Beach Waterpark will close on September 15th and will reopen in April 2025.
