Falcons Clinch District Title
By Ruben Rodriguez
Los Fresnos News
After a long non-disctrict portion followed by grueling 32-6A play, the hard work has paid off. The Los Fresnos Falcons have accomplished a big goal in the 2024-25 campaign. Marco Hinojosa’s Ball club clinched the 32-6A District title. But first we look at what transpired over the course of these last two games.
The Falcons Basketball team was 5-0 heading into their second meeting against Harlingen High. The Cardinals and Falcons battled in a thriller in their first meeting, with the Falcons ultimately taking the win 67-59.
In what has become the biggest rivalry in 32-6A, the Falcons and Cardinals clashed, but this time, things were a bit different. Harlingen had a more aggressive offense in the first half, allowing them to take a 39-25 lead at halftime. The third quarter became a high scoring affair as Harlingen and Los Fresnos combined for 44 points with both teams juggling for control.
Despite outscoring the Cardinals in the second half 47-39, Harlingen’s efficiency in the first half allowed the Cardinals to take the win in a nail biter 78-72.
Now 5-1, Los Fresnos looked to bounce back against another District Rival in Brownsville Hanna. The Falcons from the start were looking to bounce back from the loss. The Falcons played solid offense and defense all night and cruised to a 68-39 victory.
The win marked key significance as that allowed the Falcons to clinch a share of the 32-6A Title. The eighth in 12 years, Los Fresnos has now captured their third district title in the school year among the big six sports. There is still time for a few more titles with Soccer, baseball and softball on the horizon.
