District Fifth Graders to Take Tours of LFHS
- Updated: January 16, 2015
Fifth grade students at the nine elementary schools in the Los Fresnos CISD – the future Class of 2022 – will get a first-hand look of high school life Jan. 12-23.
Each of the nine schools will visit Los Fresnos High in the for a three-hour visit during the mornings Jan. 12-23.
Ronnie Rodriguez, principal at Los Fresnos High School, started the concept in 2010 to let fifth grade students know to expect when they get to LFHS.
“We want to expose our fifth graders to what high school is like before they get to middle school,” Rodriguez said. “We have a lot to offer and these tours make it easier for them to make a decision to come here.”
The first fifth-grade group visiting in 2010 are now sophomores at LFHS.
“It’s important for them to let them know what great programs we have here,” Rodriguez said. “This gives them an opportunity to think about possible careers.”
The students are divided into six groups by a university name. Serving as guides were LFHS students in the Falcon Cabinet and in the “Ready, Set, Teach” Program.
The areas to be visited include:
Agriculture Classroom, Wood Shop, Welding Shop, Agriculture Barn
Criminal Justice, Folklorico, JROTC, Mariachi and Band
Falcon Creations, Robotics, Media Technology and Quad
Athletics Weight Room, Locker Room, Gym
Science Labs, HOSA, EMT, FCCLA, and Art
Library, Bank, Go Center, Counselors and Theatre
The students will accompanied by their fifth-grade teachers and school counselors.
A group picture is taken of the fifth graders at each school at the start of the visit and a poster is presented to them before they leave. Nine posters, one from each elementary schools, will also displayed at LFHS to feature the Class of 2022.
