Students Make Emotional Presentations to Trustees
- Updated: January 27, 2015
It has become a tradition for students to be recognized for their achievements at the start of meetings of the Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees.
The tables were turned at Monday’s board meeting.
January is School Board Recognition Month, and many districts around the country held ceremonies to thank their governing bodies. Students did the recognizing this time at Los Fresnos.
The seven members of the board were honored by two schools each during the ceremony, which took about 45 minutes at the start of the meeting. Trustees and the schools that recognized them included:
- Trustee Sandra Garcia: Dora Romero Elementary and Palmer-Laakso Elementary
- Trustee Rey Farias: Resaca Middle School and Rancho Verde Elementary
- Trustee Martin Castillo: Laureles Elementary and Lopez-Riggins Elementary
- Assistant Secretary Leonel Garza: Liberty Memorial Middle School and Villarreal Elementary School
- Secretary Jesus Amaya: Los Cuates Middle School and Los Fresnos Elementary
- Vice-President Ruben Treviño: Los Fresnos United and Las Yescas Elementary
- Board President Darlene Pederson: Los Fresnos High School/CCTA/DAEP and Olmito Elementary School
The presentations were creative and brought many smiles to trustees and the 150 people in the audience.
Some of original presentations included videos produced by students, a student artwork drawing of a trustee, poetry and a performance by the Lopez-Riggins Elementary Wranglerettes.
