New Year’s Resolutions
- Updated: February 20, 2015
A month has passed since many of us made our 2015 New Year’s Resolutions. Many vowed to do everything from eating right and being good to exercising and staying in touch with family over the next 365 days. However, making a resolution is the easy part. The hard work of actually sticking to a commitment made and avoiding falling back into old habits requires a strong will and a game plan.
10 Nutrition Tips to Help Keep You Motivated Towards a Healthier You in 2015
- Take time once a week to plan out and shop for meals and snacks so you’re prepared whenever hunger strikes.
- Put a large chalk or dry erase board in your kitchen with a weekly meal plan and stick to it!
- Cut up fresh fruits and vegetables and keep them in the fridge for quick snacks.
- Aim for five 300 to 400 calorie meals throughout the day.
- Don’t keep junk food in your house!
- Keep a food journal for accountability. Share your daily log with a friend or family member for extra encouragement.
- Balance is key to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Follow the 80/20 rule, eat clean 80 percent of the time and allow yourself the opportunity to indulge 20 percent.
- Wake up and start the day off right! We already know never to skip breakfast, but it’s also important to eat within an hour of waking to help boost your metabolism.
- Include 10 grams of fiber at each meal to keep you feeling fuller longer.
- Include at least 10-15 grams of protein at each meal. Protein lowers ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates your appetite. Adding protein to your diet will help you feel more satisfied throughout your day.
