The Most Important Meal of the Day
- Updated: March 4, 2015
We’ve all heard it said, “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” It’s by far my favorite. Most mornings I’m rushing to get out of the house so it’s has to be a quick and easy fix. It might be a piece of fruit and nuts or a bowl of oatmeal and boiled egg whites but I always make a point of having something nutritious and energizing to help me get my day started.
To Skip or not to Skip
I’ve heard many say they just don’t wake up hungry so they skip breakfast and have a hardy lunch and dinner. Studies suggest that people tend to add more body fat when they eat fewer, larger meals than when they eat the same number of calories in smaller, more frequent meals.
Some people skip breakfast in an effort to lose weight, but that’s not a good idea either. In fact it can backfire. Skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control or loss more difficult. Breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal, or nibble on high-calorie snacks in order to help control appetite.
