Olmito Elementary Nominated as Blue Ribbon School
- Updated: February 20, 2015
Olmito Elementary School has been nominated for the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School Award as one of 26 schools in Texas.
Los Fresnos CISD Superintendent Gonzalo Salazar was notified by the Texas Education Agency Thursday. He visited the campus at the end of the school day and made the announcement to the administration and staff at a faculty meeting.
OES and the other nominated schools are encouraged to complete an application process through the U.S. Department of Education. Schools that receive the award are recognized at the Blue Ribbon School conference in Washington, D.C. in November.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created in 1982 to honor schools which have achieved high levels of performance or made significant improvements in closing the achievement gap in schools where at least 40 percent of the student population is classified as disadvantaged.
All schools were selected as exemplary high performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normalized tests.
