- Updated: July 10, 2015
The Gifted and Talented Discovery Program registered hundreds of students for two sessions at Los Fresnos High School this year.
Students attended 13 sessions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Fine Arts. Students had the opportunity to choose two areas of study – one in the morning and another in the afternoon.
Students took part in a three-hour morning seminar from 8:30-11:30 a.m., and a four-hour afternoon session from noon to 4 p.m. Breakfast is served from 7:30-8:30 a.m., and there is a 30-minute lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to noon. Transportation by bus is available to students who request the service.
Programs for the students to select from included: Performing Arts: Instrumental, Digital Media: Graphic Arts, Food Science, Health Science, Law and Public Safety, Renewable Energy Science: Solar Power, Digital Media: Storytelling and Comic Book Creation, Performing Arts: Vocal Music, Plant Science: Horticulture, Robotics, Media Production: Television, Visual Arts: Mixed Media and Digital Media: Multimedia Design.
Los Fresnos CISD student mentors assisted the teachers in each of the programs.
Student groups developed sophisticated-level technology, experiential and/or performance-based projects which were presented to parents and the community in a Showcase program at the end of June.
