Ricardo Balli of SafeRide Driving Academy hands a sealed envelope of meal certificates from Subway to Los Fresnos Police Chaplain, Dale House, as a token of appreciation for our local police department.

Ricardo Balli of SafeRide Driving Academy was moved to consider the local police department when reflecting back on the heroism displayed by police officers of New York City during one of the most horrific events in American history, when emergency service men and women rushed in to save whom they could despite the probability of the loss of their own life, on September 11, 2001.  Since then many of us now have an even more special appreciation for those who wear the uniform, of whatever branch of service, and who put life and limb on the line for our safety and security.

Ricardo is no different, but wanted to realize that appreciation through Subway meal certificates.

“These days police men and women are having a very tough time with many citizens. They are rejected, criticized and sometimes shot at and I just wanted to give something back to them just because of everything they have given us. It was just a small token of appreciation to let them know that I still haven’t lost trust in them.” said Ricardo.

Unsure on how to proceed Ricardo approached Val Champion, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, who assisted in contacting the appropriate channels to make Ricardo’s wish a reality.  On Monday, September 14, 2015, Ricardo met with Los Fresnos Police Chaplain Dale House to present the appreciative gesture.  At the time of this article September 11 will again be part of history but the story must still be told.

It is a reminder that we must remember the sacrifices made by those on duty for our protection.  We can always honor and respect our local service men and women every day by being alert, respectful of one another and obeying the law.
