Los Fresnos High School senior Felicia Garza and junior Edric Salazar have been named to the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Band.
Both Garza, who plays the clarinet, and Salazar, who plays several percussion instruments, were named First Chair at the Area G Competition held Jan. 7 at Corpus Christi.
Area G includes TMEA regions 13, 14, 15 and 28. The area includes a region southwest of Houston to include the areas of Corpus Christi, Victoria, Laredo and the Rio Grande Valley.
Garza and Salazar will compete at the TMEA Clinic Convention Feb. 8-11 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, where they will perform with other all-staters throughout the state.
The recognition marks the second straight year for Salazar, whose percussion routine includes tympani, two-mallet marimba, four-mallet piece marimba and snare drum.
Garza was named to the all-Area band for the second straight year. Other LFHS all-Area band competitions were Fabiola Ahuja, David Arredondo, Jenna Capps, Fernando de Leon and Israel Flores.
