The Los Fresnos Navy Junior ROTC has qualified for the NJROTC State Championship Field Meet for the 14th straight year March 25-27 in College Station.

Finals for physical fitness and academics will be held Friday, March 25. Finals for the Color Guard, Armed Drill and Unarmed Drill teams will be held Saturday, March 27.

The qualifying process began in September, as drill meets attracted 30 high schools from throughout the state at each time. LFHS competed against schools from all over the state, including the Dallas area, Beaumont area, and El Paso area.

Fifty students competed to represent LFHS NJROTC, which was designated as the 2015 Best Unit in Texas.

The group is led by Commanding Officer Cadet/LCDR Taylor Loop, Executive Officer Cadet/LCDR Stephanie Garza, and Ops Officer Cadet/LT Elijio Garza.

Team Commanders are:
Armed Drill: Cadet/LTJG Miguel Pedraza
Unarmed Drill: Cadet/LCDR Stephanie Garza
Color Guard: Cadet/LCDR Taylor Loop
Academics: Cadet/LCDR Daniela Rivera
Physical Fitness: Cadet/ENS Jorge Cardenas

NJROTC Instructors are Major David Arjona and Chief Carlos Marquez.

“The cadets endure many hours of training, practice and travel with the goals of qualifying,” Arjona said. “The past and current cadets have remained consistent in their competitive edge and prowess by once again qualifying to state with the goal of winning.”

Cadets typically finish their school day with two hours of after school practicing and honing their skills. Saturdays also are filled with hours of drill or community service.
