On Tuesday, Another Round of 32-6A Baseball took place as The Los Fresnos Falcons hosted the Brownsville Rivera Raiders for the fifth district game of 2022. The Falcons swept the Raiders in 2021 by a score of 12-0 on March 8, then on April 5 by a score of 13-3.
Los Fresnos, who was 4-0 heading into the matchup, was looking to stay undefeated, however, Rivera got the scoring started first with an RBI single. Los Fresnos responded, scoring a run in the top of the second inning. The third inning saw the Falcon Offense explode out of the gates with four runs coming in.
Rivera again responded with three runs to make it a 5-5 ballgame after three complete innings. Los Fresnos regained the lead with a run in the top of the fourth and maintained a 6-5 lead until Rivera scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-6 at the end of five innings.
Los Fresnos, known for always having a potent offense, took control with another four-run surge in the top of sixth to make it a 10-7 lead. Rivera then scored another run to cut the lead down to two. Los Fresnos held Rivera scoreless at the bottom of the seventh to capture the win 10-8
Senior Ace Matthew Padilla took the win, and despite allowing eight runs and 11 hits, still maintained a dominant presence on the mound with eight strikeouts. Padilla, Diego Cantu, Hector Muniz, and Juan Garcia all collected hits to lead Los Fresnos to their fifth straight District Win. Los Fresnos had 10 runs off 11 hits and one error, while Rivera had eight runs off 11 hits and no errors. The Falcons improve to 15-5 overall, 5-0 in District Play.
In what was a crazy night for Valley Baseball, which saw three unbeaten teams lose their first district games, Los Fresnos managed to remain undefeated in 32-6A alongside Weslaco, who sparked a seventh-inning comeback against Harlingen to remain unbeaten. The Two Unbeatens will clash next Tuesday in Los Fresnos, but first the Falcons will host the Raiders for their second and Final District Meeting on Friday in Los Fresnos.
