Los Fresnos CISD Literacy Bus Ready to Make Stops
- Updated: November 18, 2022

Los Fresnos CISD is going the extra mile to get books into the hands of its’ students. The brand-new District Literacy Bus, a mobile “library on wheels”, is now in full operation. The bus made its’ first stop at the “Falcon Tailgate” on Friday, November 4. Students, parents, and staff were able to tour the bus and check out books to read. The bus will continue to visit in-district neighborhoods and community events with the goal of promoting literacy and reading to students.

The Los Fresnos CISD Family Engagement Department lead the project, taking a page out of other mobile literacy center projects to ensure broad access to books for all. A Los Fresnos CISD school bus has been converted and renovated to include a colorful exterior, a full interior library, and a “guest reader” area. “Literacy is a key component of the Los Fresnos CISD mission. We are excited to connect with families and inspire children to read, relax, and engage in a safe and inviting space with additional resources that meet their educational needs,” said Claudia Medina-Garcia, Family Engagement Coordinator.
The Literacy Bus will roll into events throughout the school year and will set up in neighborhoods throughout the summer. A full schedule of locations and guest readers that will be on board will be released in the near- future. For more information, you may contact the Family Engagement Department at (956) 254-5091.
