Los Fresnos Football set to roll into postseason
By Ruben Rodriguez
Los Fresnos News
The Los Fresnos Falcons Football team is set to take part in the UIL Class 6A Region Four Playoffs. The Edinburg North Cougars are the opponents listed for the Falcons in the Bi-District Round. The North Cougars prove to be quite the test for the Falcons as Edinburg North is currently 8-2 and the defending District 31-6A Champions. But how did the Falcons fare this season?
The Falcons kicked off 2022 with a big win over the Weslaco East Wildcats 28-7. Los Fresnos then looked to carry that momentum into week two where they went up against a tough PSJA North team 41-20. After the loss to the Raiders, the Falcons completely turned things around. Going on a three game win streak, Los Fresnos knocked off PSJA, La Joya and Mission. Los Fresnos would finish non-district play 4-1.
After a bye week, the win streak continued as the Falcons knocked off the Rivera Raiders 42-7. However, Los Fresnos then fell to Weslaco in a thriller 21-17. The Falcons would pick up one more win over Brownsville Hanna 24-21 before losing to San Benito 36-7 then Harlingen to wrap up the season.
Now 6-4 on the season, Los Fresnos looks to pick up a big win and shock the powerhouse Edinburg North Cougars. Los Fresnos got past the Mission Eagles in the 2021 Bi-District round before falling to the Brennan Bears in the Area Round. Los Fresnos hopes to use that to fuel the Unfinished Business mentality left by Los Fresnos in 2021.
