The Los Fresnos Lady Falcons played host to the Edinburg Lady Bobcats in the 2022-23 UIL Class 6A Region Four Bi-District Round. The second meeting between Edinburg and Los Fresnos, the Lady Bobcats won the first meeting on December 9 by a score of 70-28. Since then, both teams have gone on different paths. Edinburg, who stayed dominant throughout the district season, finished off 10-0 and captured the 31-6A Crown. The Lady Falcons, who battled throughout the season, finished in fourth and snuck into the postseason.
The First Quarter saw the Lady Bobcats assume control of the game, putting up a quarter high 16 points. Los Fresnos still was able to put up 12 points and try to hold off the Lady Bobcats on offense. The Second Quarter saw the Lady Falcons net 10 points and play a lot stronger on defense and limited the Lady Bobcats to 12 points in the second. Edinburg still led 28-22 at the half.
The Third quarter began and Edinburg dominated from the start, scoring a solid 20 points, breaking open the score. Despite jumping up ahead, Los Fresnos was able to close out the lead and net 15 points at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter had Edinburg continuing to build upon their lead, tacking on 15 more points and limiting Los Fresnos to only 12 points. Despite a surge of offense by the Lady Falcons, Edinburg would hold on to win 63-49.
Los Fresnos’ season ended 26-11 overall and 5-5 in 32-6A. A great season for Los Fresnos, the Lady Falcons look to continue their improvement in 2023-24.
