Los Fresnos, Texas — On the night of November 23rd, Thanksgiving evening, the Church on FM 510, “CFC Nueva Vida” was set on fire. A 24-year-old, Elizabeth Marie Manuel is being charged with arson.
According to KRGV, Cameron County Fire Marshal, Juan Martinez, says investigators are working to find a motive behind the fire.
No injuries have been reported, though the building that was burned was primarily a food kitchen pantry it was also used to host free health fairs and other events, as well as being used for Sunday bible school.
A Gofundme has been created to help the church rebuild as CFC Nueva Vida has no insurance.
“Although they were quick to respond, the property damage is significant and the integrity of the structure has been compromised. Furthermore, the church does not currently have any Commercial property insurance policy to cover any of the damages or loss.” The Gofundme page continues by saying, “The faithful church members along with other churches had been working year after year, investing hours of volunteer work and significant resources to get this building up to code in hopes to be insurable soon and fully equipped.”
Further details along with quotes will be provided as it becomes available.
