Record Breaking: 34th Annual Rodeo

Mike Villarreal

The 34th annual Los Fresnos Rodeo was held on February 16-18th . And while the parade was canceled due to the weather on Saturday, it has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 5:30 pm. However, the rainy and cold weather did not discourage the crowds from attending this record-breaking event. The rodeo was a complete sell-out and was in part thanks to eight new skyboxes that were available this year.

The dedication of the Cowboys and Cowgirls was on hand as they not only battled each other but the cold rainy weather as well. The Western tradition is as steadfast as these men and women who dedicate their lives to the cowboy and cowgirl way of life.

But the people would not be denied, rain or shine they showed up in record numbers to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event. Not only was this a chance to see the rodeo but there was also the Heart of America carnival with rides and attractions for everyone to enjoy. And let’s not forget all the people from the community to the sponsors who make this event possible. There are also scholarships that are awarded and are much appreciated by the lucky recipients.

For 34 years the Los Fresnos Rodeo has been a true testament to the Western Heritage and the tenacity of those involved.

And while this three-day event is over for now, plans are already underway for next year’s 35th celebration with the rodeo committee thinking of ways to enhance the ultimate rodeo experience.
The Los Fresnos Rodeo is nationally recognized by the Professional Rodeo Association (PRCA) and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) as a sanctioned event highlighting the best cowboys and cowgirls in the nation.
