Los Fresnos News
After a successful Non-District, the Los Fresnos Falcons began district play in the 2024 Texas High School Football Season. In a shortened District Schedule due to the realignment this past February, the games become more crucial as only four of the five teams in District will qualify for the postseason. So for Los Fresnos, it’s all about coming hot out of the gate.
Due up first for the Falcons are the San Benito Greyhounds. Last season, the Falcons and Greyhounds met in Week 9. In what was a dominant night for San Benito, the Greyhounds soundly defeated Los Fresnos 38-14. This season, the Falcons look to return the favor.
The first quarter saw Los Fresnos take control on offense and defense, shutting down the Greyhound offense, while tacking on two Touchdowns. In the second quarter, the Greyhounds responded by putting up nine points on the board, while Los Fresnos tacked on a field goal and a touchdown to lead 24-9 at the half.
The dominance continued for Los Fresnos in the second half. Albeit a slower half offensively, the Falcons still were able to keep the Greyhounds scoreless, as well as knocking in another touchdown. San Benito once again was finally able to get on the board in the fourth quarter. A touchdown that included a two-point conversion allowed San Benito to get into double digits. The Falcons then scored two more touchdowns to ensure the win. The Falcons would hold on to defeat the Greyhounds 45-17.
Now 1-0 in District play, the Falcons are set to clash with district newcomer and powerhouse Brownsville Veterans. One of the top teams in the RGV, the Chargers are 6-2 and 2-0 in 32-6A. BVM is fresh off victories over Harlingen (40-9) and Brownsville Hanna (46-7).
The Falcons will look to continue this momentum against a very tough Charger Football team.
