Fresh off a big win against San Benito to open District 32-6A action, the Los Fresnos Falcons faced off against Brownsville Veterans Memorial in round two of 32-6A play. A true challenge, Brownsville Veterans came into the matchup 5-3 and fresh of a 5A DI State Semifinals Appearance last season.
Brownsville Veterans took control early on in the game, knocking in a touchdown. The Charger defense played a factor, shutting down a very potent Los Fresnos offense. Only limited to a field goal in the first quarter, the Falcons know they had a high hill to climb.
In the second quarter things continued to not go the Falcons way as the Chargers would put up two more touchdowns to lead 21-10 at the half.
Defense was the primary factor on both sides, but the tide shifted, the Falcons were able to completely shut down the Charger offense and keep them scoreless for the entirety of the second half. Now that the defense took over, it was time for the offense to dominate. The Falcons were able to tack on a touchdown in the third, and a second in the fourth to take lead in the game. Defense continued to hold on as the Falcons survived Brownsville Veterans Memorial 24-21.
The win marked the Falcons first win against the Chargers since October 30, 2015, which was the last time both teams faced off.
The Falcons now sit 2-0 in District Play and 7-1 overall. With two more games left in District, the Falcons will need to win out to keep the 32-6A Title hopes alive.
