LFCISD Holds January Board Meeting
Los Fresnos CISD hosted its monthly Board meeting on Monday, January 13th, drawing a full house of attendees. The event was a celebration of exceptional achievements among students and staff, as dozens were honored for their service and accomplishments.
Superintendent Dr. Gonzalo Salazar and the Los Fresnos CISD Board of Trustees led the recognitions, highlighting dedication and success across various categories.
ABCD Award: Above and Beyond the Call of Duty
Jacob Garcia, the district’s Head Athletic Trainer, was awarded the prestigious ABCD Award by Athletic Director David Cantu. The recognition underscores Garcia’s unwavering commitment and exceptional contributions to the athletic program.
Achieving Higher Levels of Proficiency and Lifelong Learning
The meeting celebrated four staff members for their academic and professional growth:
- Lucila Lopez, Teacher at LFU, earned her National Board Certification, demonstrating advanced teaching proficiency.
- Martin Lopez, Teacher at LFU, achieved a Master’s Degree, showcasing his dedication to higher education.
- Daisy Garrett, Counselor at LFU, completed the required hours and passed the National Exam to become a Licensed Professional Counselor.
- Dymphna Canales, Technology Director, attained a Doctorate Degree, exemplifying leadership and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Fine Arts Excellence
The district’s Fine Arts programs shone brightly with multiple accolades:
- The Los Fresnos High School (LFHS) Mighty Falcon Band earned a Division I Rating at the Pigskin Jubilee and secured 3rd place in the Area competition.
- The LFHS Jazz Orchestra received national recognition as a winner from the National Foundation for Music Education and was invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Convention. The ensemble also served as a Demonstration Band for the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention.

Dr. Salazar commended the awardees, emphasizing the district’s commitment to fostering excellence in academics, arts, and athletics. “Your achievements are a testament to the culture of dedication and high standards we uphold at Los Fresnos CISD,” he said.
