SkillsUSA Screen Print Team Competes at State Conference
- Updated: April 14, 2025

This year, the Los Fresnos High School SkillsUSA Screen Print team, coached by Ivan Hernandez (Graphic Design Teacher at LFHS), competed at the 2025 SkillsUSA State Conference held at the ABC Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The conference took place from Wednesday, April 2, to Saturday, April 5, at the American Bank Center. Since 2004, SkillsUSA has hosted its state-level competition in Corpus Christi.
In March, students Allison Munoz, Fernando Gallegos, Anthony Chapa, and Gia Hernandez qualified at the regional level, paving the way for them to participate in the prestigious state competition this year. Thousands of talented students from all corners of Texas converged in Corpus Christi, eager to compete for honors in various events, and the Falcons proudly joined this remarkable gathering. Notably, our local standout, Gia Hernandez, distinguished herself by securing a bronze medal at the state competition for the second consecutive year.
Gia received invaluable support during her preparation from her brother, Dominique Hernandez, who was the 2022 State Champion. He shared his insights and experiences, helping her refine her skills. Reflecting on her performance, Gia stated, “I wanted to match my brother’s performance and came up a little short this year, but I competed well and look forward to starting my own team at UTRGV to compete in the postsecondary category next year.” Her determination and ambition to excel and continue to shine as she sets her sights on future competitions.
The SkillsUSA Championships follow a structured progression, starting at the local level with contests in classrooms nationwide. Competitors advance through district and state levels, with top performers eventually earning a chance to compete on the national stage and potentially at the prestigious WorldSkills competitions. These events not only allow students to showcase their skills but also enable them to build meaningful connections with industry professionals and potential employers. Participants compete for recognition through various awards, including medallions, scholarships, tools, and other valuable prizes.
District, state, and national winners receive gold, silver, and bronze medallions, along with scholarships and tools, all of which contributing to their professional growth and advancement in their respective fields.
