Los Fresnos Falcon Theatre Makes History!
- Updated: April 21, 2025

By Mike Villarreal
Congratulations to the Los Fresnos High School UIL Varsity One-Act Play company for a remarkable achievement: making history by advancing to the Area competition for the first time in twenty years! This accomplishment marks a significant milestone for the Los Fresnos school district, officially placing the Los Fresnos High School program among the elite top 48 theatre programs in Texas.
The company showcased its talents on Saturday, April 12, 2025, in Castroville, TX, just outside San Antonio. Although they did not progress to the next level of competition, their selection as one of the top 48 programs in the state is a commendable feat and a testament to their dedication and hard work after two decades of striving for excellence.
Under the expert direction of Nelly Cuéllar-García, the cast and crew delivered a powerful and unforgettable performance of “The House of Bernarda Alba.” Their portrayal of this thought-provoking and emotionally charged play left a lasting impact on the audience, highlighting their growth as performers and artists. Though they did not advance further in the competition, the experience gained and the artistic expression demonstrated were nothing short of extraordinary. The Los Fresnos Consolidated Independent School District (LFCISD) beams with pride over this remarkable group and their unwavering commitment to excellence in every facet of their journey.
In recognition of individual excellence, several members were honored with awards: Andrea Almaguer received the All-Star Technician award for her exceptional contributions behind the scenes; Addison Barrera was presented with the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast award for her noteworthy performance; and Amber Bender was awarded the prestigious All-Star Cast honor for her outstanding portrayal of her character. A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated team of directors, Daniel Cranick, Kristina Cranick, and Aníbal Villarreal, whose guidance and mentorship were invaluable to the company’s success. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the parents, family members, and supporters whose encouragement and involvement supported the cast and crew throughout this journey.
This achievement begins a bright future for Theatre Arts in Los Fresnos as the company grows and inspires.
