LFHS Team Has Best Showing in Regional Science Bowl

Los Fresnos high school and middle school sent four teams of science students to compete in the 2013 Regional Science Bowl Saturday at The University of Texas-Pan American.

The annual event was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Academic competition consisted of intense infused questions from the categories of Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, Energy, Mathematics and Physics.

Of the four teams from Los Fresnos, the LFHS B team had the best showing, winning three of four matches in Group D. Team members included (pictured, left to right) Abel Aguilar, Maria Jose Deleon, Dulce Guardado, Clarissa Camarillo and Dalton House.

Also competing in the High School division were the Los Fresnos A team and Los Fresnos United. Resaca Middle School competed in the Middle School division.

Other results included:
• Los Fresnos A: Steven Bautista, Alexis Garcia, Jaime Saldivar, Alonzo Sanchez and Scott Urbis.
• Los Fresnos United: Allison Escobar, Lucero Dorantes, Aly Rodriguez and A.Z. Ruiz.
• Resaca Middle School: Kevin Benavides, Zachary Dunbar, Ana Islas, Muhammad Khan and Jacob Stambaugh.

Coaches for the teams were Misty Heredia at LFHS, Santiago Trevino at LFU and Tony Padilla from RMS.
