- Updated: August 15, 2024

By Mike Villarreal
The City of Brownsville is excited to invite you to an unforgettable overnight campout experience from Saturday, August 16th to Sunday, August 17th, explicitly designed for individuals with special needs. This one-of-a-kind Community Campout promises a wealth of excitement and fun for all participants, offering the chance to forge new friendships, partake in various activities, and create lasting memories. The event itinerary includes stargazing, kayaking, learning camp skills, and gathering around the campfire to roast delicious s’mores.
Participants will have the opportunity to camp out in comfortable tents set up inside the gym, complete with air conditioning to ensure a pleasant environment and protection from mosquitoes. Additionally, there will be kayaking sessions in the Gonzalez pool, s’mores enjoyment in the garden, archery activities, stargazing opportunities with the Star Society, and much more.
Don’t miss out on this amazing campout experience! The event is entirely cost-free, but availability is limited, so be sure to secure your spot by registering at bit.ly/3YH8NMv. Families are encouraged to join, and if a participant requires one-on-one care, the presence of a guardian or parent throughout the campout is mandatory. Remember to bring your own sleeping bag and pillow, personal toiletries, comfortable clothing, swimwear, and a towel for kayaking. For any queries, please feel free to contact Laura Holbrook, the Recreation and Inclusion Coordinator, at (956) 551-2314.
