Los Fresnos News
After a lengthy non-district Schedule featuring everything from tri-matches to tournaments, the Los Fresnos Lady Falcons have finally made it to District 32-6A play. The Lady Falcons are now officially on the hunt to capture 32-6A gold. However although in a new district, there is still a new look, but the mission still stays same.
In the 2022 UIL Realignment, Harlingen South and Donna North were dropped down to 32-5A, leaving 32-6A to a six team district for the next two seasons. Fast forward to this past February, the 2024 realignment further shook things up. Weslaco, was realigned to 31-6A, while Brownsville Rivera was moved down to 32-5A. In return, Brownsville Veterans was moved up to 6A, making 32-6A a five team district. So now instead of a 10 game district schedule, the Lady Falcons will play an 8 game schedule. Technically, with less district games, means that it is a bit tougher to qualify for the playoffs, especially in a highly competitive district.
With a shorter, tougher schedule, each game becomes a “must win”, and the Lady Falcons know that very well. To open up 32-6A play, the Lady Falcons took on the San Benito Lady Hounds. Looking to start off right, Los Fresnos looked to defeat San Benito after dropping both to the Lady Greyhounds last year. The Lady Falcons had no trouble in the district opener. Los Fresnos knocked off San Benito in the first set 25-18. The dominance continued in the second set for the Lady Falcons as Los Fresnos broke it open 25-12. The Lady Falcons then continued to control the tempo by playing solid offense and defense, defeating the Lady Hounds in the third set 25-6 for the sweep.
The Lady Falcons continued district play against district newcomer Brownsville Veterans Memorial. Despite not being in the same district, the Lady Falcons and Lady Chargers have met before. In fact, The Lady Falcons and Lady Chargers faced off three times throughout non-district play last season and Los Fresnos won all three meetings, sweeping each time. History would repeat itself as Los Fresnos would defeat Brownsville Veterans in a sweep 3-0.
The Lady Falcons are now 2-0 in district and look to continue the momentum in District Play. Los Fresnos will take on Harlingen, then Brownsville Hanna to wrap up the first half of 32-6A.
